Is it August already?

Aug 4th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Where is the summer going?  Well, they say that times flies when you’re having fun… and that’s true!
We’re still not really settled.  HT is working now, and we’re spending August slightly inland at a friend’s house.  We’re looking for something more permanent around Portsmouth or Dover, starting in September.
We considered moving near to HT’s work, [...]

Sultry summer days

Jul 4th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Summer is glorious here in New England!  At least once a day, we smile and say to each other, “This is what we moved here for.”
We get to the beach at least once a week, and really enjoy walking in the waves at the water’s edge.  The icy waters are invigorating and the landscapes are [...]

Poll results

Jul 4th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: What's new

Thanks for voting!  During the past month, you’ve let me know what you’d like from Santa Flamingo.  Here are the results:
You’d like more vintage images such as photos, ads and illustrations.  The second most popular request was Gothic images and clipart.  You’d also like zines and ebooks, and some ecourses in art.
These sound like really [...]

The 2000+ mile adventure

Jul 4th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Featured this month

In Houston (Texas) on the morning of May 1st, we got into our cars (HT and I, plus our two cats) and drove from Texas to Maine. This has been a ‘leap of faith’ move, since we had no idea what would happen, next.
We just had to take this chance, because coastal New England [...]

Clipart

Jul 4th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Clipart sheets

I’m working on fresh clipart, papers for use in collage, and other treats.
My first project will be illustrations from vintage and antique fairy tales.
(That’s the first new project because I carried those files with me when we drove from Houston to New England.)
Until the new art is online, be sure to see Santa Flamingo’s most [...]

A lovely, rainy day

Jun 6th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

It’s a lovely cool and drizzly day here in New Hampshire.  For June and July, we’re renting a gorgeous townhouse condo just outside of Portsmouth.  It’s a wonderful base for us while HT tries freelancing instead of working for someone else.
That said, he is considering a short-term job working with print media (ads, newsletters, direct [...]

The adventure continues!

May 16th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

I’m writing this from a hotel lobby in Portland, Maine.  We left Texas two weeks ago, and it’s been an adventure!
Yesterday, HT did some job hunting and then we went to Odiorne Point in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  (One of my letterboxes is there.)  After hiking to the top of one of the bunkers, we strolled [...]

Reviewing this week

Apr 25th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Yesterday, I began looking at the results of our “a little help from our friends” week. The week isn’t over yet, so my current thoughts aren’t set in stone, but the trends have been consistent from day to day.
Here’s what I’ve seen:
Daily visitors surged, and each of them downloaded at least one freebie daily.
(People [...]

Real-er… slowly

Apr 24th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

This morning, I made the reservations for each stop along our route from Texas to Maine.  We’re staying at La Quinta Inns, because they’re consistently pet-friendly and we’re traveling with two cats.
I also printed our driving directions, and it’s slowly becoming real that we’re really doing this.  2100+ miles…  In some ways, it’s a long [...]

Water, water everywhere

Apr 23rd, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Life is weird, sometimes.  Yesterday, the management office decided to power wash the outside of our apartment building.  That was fine.
But, apparently they power washed the driveway, as well.  That’s the driveway next to our garage. The one where about 2/3 of our belongings are.  The one that has a small gap below the door; [...]
