Sultry summer days

Jul 4th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Summer is glorious here in New England!  At least once a day, we smile and say to each other, “This is what we moved here for.”
We get to the beach at least once a week, and really enjoy walking in the waves at the water’s edge.  The icy waters are invigorating and the landscapes are [...]

A lovely, rainy day

Jun 6th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

It’s a lovely cool and drizzly day here in New Hampshire.  For June and July, we’re renting a gorgeous townhouse condo just outside of Portsmouth.  It’s a wonderful base for us while HT tries freelancing instead of working for someone else.
That said, he is considering a short-term job working with print media (ads, newsletters, direct [...]

The adventure continues!

May 16th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

I’m writing this from a hotel lobby in Portland, Maine.  We left Texas two weeks ago, and it’s been an adventure!
Yesterday, HT did some job hunting and then we went to Odiorne Point in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  (One of my letterboxes is there.)  After hiking to the top of one of the bunkers, we strolled [...]

Reviewing this week

Apr 25th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Yesterday, I began looking at the results of our “a little help from our friends” week. The week isn’t over yet, so my current thoughts aren’t set in stone, but the trends have been consistent from day to day.
Here’s what I’ve seen:
Daily visitors surged, and each of them downloaded at least one freebie daily.
(People [...]

Real-er… slowly

Apr 24th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

This morning, I made the reservations for each stop along our route from Texas to Maine.  We’re staying at La Quinta Inns, because they’re consistently pet-friendly and we’re traveling with two cats.
I also printed our driving directions, and it’s slowly becoming real that we’re really doing this.  2100+ miles…  In some ways, it’s a long [...]

Water, water everywhere

Apr 23rd, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

Life is weird, sometimes.  Yesterday, the management office decided to power wash the outside of our apartment building.  That was fine.
But, apparently they power washed the driveway, as well.  That’s the driveway next to our garage. The one where about 2/3 of our belongings are.  The one that has a small gap below the door; [...]

Observations on packing

Apr 22nd, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

I’ve weeded out so much that I’m moving about 1/3 the volume that I arrived with, five years ago.  There were things that I’d moved to Texas, and when I looked at them years later, I wondered, “Who was that woman?”
Moving back to New England has some scary aspects.  No job, no real savings, and [...]

Site relaunch

Apr 20th, 2008 | By Aisling D'Art | Category: Aisling's personal blog

I am so excited to relaunch Santa Flamingo!
This is a project that lingered for most of a year, and — with the new theme — I’m able to renew this website with new ideas and projects.
For the first week, I’m featuring one-day specials and freebies.  Then, we’ll be on the road, moving from Texas to [...]
